This year, the U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA) is urging consumers to “Know Your Roll” during National Tire Safety Week, May 21-28. The goal of National Tire Safety Week is to encourage tire safety and maintenance – and this year, also highlight the potential dangers of unsafe used tires.
USTMA member companies will be doing their part to encourage tire safety among consumers as we head into the summer travel months. Expect more to come from companies including: Bridgestone, Cooper Tire, Goodyear, Michelin, Toyo Tire, and Yokohama Tire. Discount Tire also announced they are participating in USTMA’s annual tire safety campaign.
USTMA is also working to educate consumers about the dangers of unsafe used tires, leading a coalition urging the Ohio legislature to pass legislation to prevent unsafe used tires from hitting the road. USTMA will be joined by State Senator Frank LaRose and State Rep. Robert Sprague to urge the Ohio House to pass S.B. 223. The legislation would clearly define the characteristics of unsafe used tires, and prohibit the installation of any such tires on a vehicle that would travel on public highways.
