American Tire Distributors (ATD) has named board member Michael Broderick as Interim President, effective immediately, as the company begins a leadership transition. Broderick succeeds Ira B. Silver, and ATD said the company and Silver have parted ways.
Broderick, a veteran automotive aftermarket executive, will guide the company through the transition while ATD's Board of Directors conducts a comprehensive search for a permanent Chief Executive Officer. The board said it will consider both internal and external candidates.
Cost reductions and network investment
The change comes after a year in which ATD focused on rightsizing its business. The company said it eliminated more than $170 million in structural costs during 2026, reinvesting a portion of those savings in the business. With the backing of its shareholders, ATD plans further investment in its national distribution network to better serve customers and manufacturer partners. The company added that manufacturers and customers have continued to support it.
ATD has made important progress sharpening our focus on our core tire distribution business, improving operational efficiency and delivering outstanding service and value to our customers and partners. As we look to accelerate these efforts, we determined that now is the right time to initiate a leadership transition.
— Philippe Gilbert, Chairman of the Board of Directors, ATD
Gilbert said Broderick will be supported by the ATD management team, which the company credits with a central role in its operational transformation.
Mike brings substantial experience leading complex automotive businesses, and we are pleased that he is stepping in as Interim President to help us during this transition period… On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank Ira for his leadership and contributions to help move the Company forward during a critical time.
— Philippe Gilbert, Chairman of the Board of Directors, ATD
Decades in the aftermarket
Broderick brings more than 25 years of experience in the aftermarket parts and tire service industries. He most recently served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Monro, Inc. Earlier, he was Executive Vice President of Merchandising and Store Operations Support at Advance Auto Parts, Senior Vice President of the automotive division of Canadian Tire Corporation, CEO of Federal-Mogul Corporation and a President at General Parts. He began his career at AutoZone, where he spent 16 years in field and operational roles, including Vice President of the company's Northeast division.
I'm excited to step in and work alongside ATD's team of talented associates as we focus on enhancing our network to provide customers with high-quality products and unparalleled service. As a member of ATD's Board and over a decade of working with ATD as a customer, I've witnessed firsthand the strength of the Company's robust national distribution network, deep customer and manufacturer relationships and long-held commitment to exceptional service. I look forward to advancing our efforts to strengthen our core tire distribution business and build a stronger, more efficient company.
