AutoNation, Inc., one of the largest automotive retailers in the United States, has added Goodyear Chief Executive Officer and President Mark Stewart to its Board of Directors as an independent director. The Fort Lauderdale, Florida-based dealer group announced the appointment on Oct. 16, 2026.
According to AutoNation's Form 8-K filing, the board increased its size to ten directors and appointed Stewart effective Oct. 13. The board determined that he meets the independence standards set out in the company's Corporate Governance Guidelines and the New York Stock Exchange listing rules.
A Goodyear CEO in the Boardroom
Stewart has led The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company as CEO and President, and has served on its Board of Directors, since January 2024. His move onto the board of a major automotive retailer adds a tire industry perspective to one of the country's biggest dealership networks.
Before Goodyear, Stewart was Chief Operating Officer of North America for Stellantis and a member of the automaker's Group Executive Council, where he led a business with more than 88,000 employees and over $90 billion in revenue. Earlier, he served as Vice President, Customer Fulfillment, at Amazon, and held senior leadership roles at ZF TRW Automotive, TRW and Tower Automotive. Over his career he has run large-scale operations across the United States, Europe and Asia.
Stewart holds a bachelor's degree in electrical and electronics engineering from Vanderbilt University and an MBA from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He is a member of Business Roundtable and previously served on the Board of Directors of the Auto Alliance.
Strategy and Shareholder Value
AutoNation's board chairman pointed to Stewart's operating track record and experience leading large organizations through change.
Mark is a proven global leader with deep experience across the automotive, manufacturing, technology, and consumer sectors. His strategic perspective, operational discipline, and track record of leading complex organizations through transformation will strengthen the Board as we continue to advance AutoNation's strategy and deliver long-term value for our shareholders.
— Rick Burdick, Chairman of the AutoNation Board of Directors
As a non-employee director, Stewart will take part in AutoNation's director compensation program, which includes an annual board retainer of $50,000, prorated for 2026 based on time served. He will also be eligible for future equity awards under the company's 2024 Non-Employee Director Equity Plan, according to the filing.
