ZF Aftermarket is adding built-in OE diagnostic insights to ZF MultiScan, its diagnostic tool for independent shops, and will demonstrate the update at AAPEX 2026 in the AAPEX Forum, Booth #F13011.
ZF MultiScan launched at AAPEX 2025 to give independent shops access to a broad range of advanced functions, coding and programming across multiple vehicle makes and models. The new release brings ZF's own insight into the systems it manufactures for OEMs into that aftermarket tool, delivered as mini diagnostic test plans at the moment a technician reads a diagnostic trouble code (DTC).
Starting with Continuous Damping Control
The first coverage supports vehicles equipped with ZF Continuous Damping Control (CDC), which is used on multiple vehicle brands and models in North America. During a vehicle scan, MultiScan auto-detects ZF electronic control units (ECUs). When a DTC is read on a ZF control unit, ZF diagnostic insights are available directly from that page.
Opening the insights first gives the technician a quick overview of how the system operates, which helps anyone working on it for the first time. The insights then provide:
Key conditions, values and behaviors: ZF engineering information trimmed down to the data points and thresholds needed to diagnose the fault.
Recommended checks: the probable checks, based on analysis of the specific fault conditions.
Associated data: the relevant live data from the vehicle is displayed, rather than asking the technician to find Parameter Identifiers (PIDs) manually.
ZF describes the result as an actionable mini diagnostic test plan rather than a long technical information page.
"Independent shops are being asked to service increasingly sophisticated vehicles, and they need access to the right information to do that work efficiently and confidently," said Chris Battershell, Vice President, ZF Aftermarket North America. "By bringing ZF's OE knowledge directly into the technician's diagnostic workflow, we're helping our customers turn complex vehicle information into actionable insights. It's another way ZF is helping independent workshops prepare for the next generation of vehicle service."
At AAPEX 2026
ZF will run live demonstrations of ZF MultiScan, including the OE diagnostic insights, along with expert training mini-sessions and product exhibits covering its full aftermarket ecosystem at Booth #F13011 in the AAPEX Forum. More information is available on the ZF MultiScan product page.
