Yokohama wins green awards, shows new tires at REIFEN
Yokohama took three of its most recently launched tires to the REIFEN Show in Germany last week. It came as Yokohama in the U.S. was celebrating winning two major environmental awards.
Yokohama Tire Manufacturing Virginia — which produces passenger car and light truck tires in Salem, Virginia — received two awards for outstanding achievements in sustainable manufacturing: the Environmental Excellence Gold Award from the Virginia Water Environment Association and the bronze Governor’s Environmental Excellence Award.
The Environmental Excellence Gold Award recognizes Yokohama for its commitment to pollution prevention and waste reduction. The Governor’s Environmental Excellence Award recognizes the company’s zero landfill operation.
Two new Advan tires on show at REIFEN
One of the tires on show was the premium high-performance Advan Fleva V701, which was originally announced in March. Yokohama hopes the latest addition to the Advan range will set an “all new standard of high performance as a sporty tire.” It features extreme wet grip, “emotional” handling, low-noise and an attractive design.
The company said the tire was “a new concept focused on increasing drivers’ control of the car. The new high-performance sport tire brings greater driving pleasure to a diverse group of car owners, from sport car lovers to drivers of limousines, compact cars and CUVs.”
The new tire will be available in July in 24 sizes, with 43 more sizes ranging from 195/55R15 85V to 255/30R20 92W available in early 2017.
The second new tire was the Advan A052 — a tire the company claims is “the ultimate street sporty tire, with the most extreme grip ever.” It is the successor tire to the Advan A048. It will come in 16 sizes, ranging from 16 inches to 18 inches and should be available from July this year.
The company said: “The new tire improves upon the Advan A048’s already superior cornering and stable handling to deliver unprecedented grip performance in wet and dry conditions. The tread design is developed from the tarmac rally tire Advan A051T, which has been used at many rallies in Europe, and also that is derived from the legend tire, Yokohama A008.”
New Geolandar on show at REIFEN
The Geolandar A/T G015 tire for SUVs was also on show. It was developed to “support the active vehicle lifestyle of drivers by delivering superior performance on any road surface under any weather condition.”
Yokohama says they have used an optimized tread pattern and new compound to increase the tire’s wear performance and traction performance on wet and snow-covered roads.
“The tire’s LT size for use in the harshest off-road conditions achieves superior cut and chip resistance. The Geolandar A/T G015 will be available in a wide range of sizes that will fit virtually various SUVs,” the company said.
It comes a year after Yokohama released the Geolandar H/T G056, a highway-terrain tire for mid- and large-size SUVs.
