Hankook unveils “sound absorber” tech for quieter drive

Hankook has introduced its new “sound absorber” technology at the REIFEN Show in Germany.

The technology aims to reduce interior noise, creating a more comfortable driving experience. It will initially be applied to the manufacturer’s flagship Hankook Ventus S1 evo2 SUV tire.

Hankook said tires with sound absorber technology will be equipped with a special polyurethane foam sheet attached to the inner surface of the tread area using Hankook’s SealGuard sealant adhesive during the manufacturing process. The company claims its sound absorber technology can reduce interior noise levels, caused from the tire’s cavity, between five and seven decibels.

UHP pattern without sacrificing comfort

The Hankook Ventus S1 evo2 SUV is a tire that combines sporty and dynamic driving performance with high-suspension comfort, very low rolling noise and reduced rolling resistance. The safety features, including wet grip, have also been specially adapted to meet the demands of drivers of high-performing premium SUVs.

Hankook said that by applying the sound absorber technology, its engineers “developed an ultra-high-performance pattern without sacrificing the necessary comfort characteristics that are mandatory for this class of luxury vehicles.”

“As an increased cavity noise is typical for lightweight, low-aspect-ratio tires, its reduction was a pivotal aspect and a focal point of the development work to provide a top-performing, yet pleasant, driving experience,” Hankook said.

“The sophisticated technology of the Ventus S1 evo² SUV, with its multiple tread radius and double-layer rayon carcass, provides maximum tread contact under all conditions”.

Safety and driving control also improved

“The tire not only impresses from outstanding aquaplaning behavior but also with optimum road contact for perfect balance under both wet and dry conditions.”

Hankook reported that driving control and safety at high speeds were also improved significantly in the tire. A state-of-the-art high-grip styrene-polymer-silica mixture not only enables optimised wet grip but also reduces rolling resistance for more environmental compatibility.

“Thanks to improved wear and heat-aging resistance, it also contributes to higher mileage and thereby to the economy of the tire. The refined cooling system of the tire also enables faster heat discharge for stable handling features and an overall longer tire lifetime,” Hankook claims.
