FCA picks Pirelli for popular Jeep and Dodge SUVs

Jeep Grand Cherokees and Dodge Durangos will now come with Pirelli’s Scorpion Verde tires as original equipment (OE).

Pirelli announced the deal to fit Scorpion Verde and Scorpion Verde All Season tires to the 2016 models of the popular SUVs late last week.

Pirelli’s Scorpion product family of SUV and light truck tires has more than 330 original equipment contracts.

Scorpion Verde to be OE on 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is the most-awarded SUV in the industry and the 2016 model boasts improved fuel economy thanks to the introduction of Engine Stop-Start (ESS) technology.

The Scorpion Verde All Season (265/50R20 107V) is the optional performance upgrade for the Overland model and will come standard on Summit models sold in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The Scorpion Verde will be offered on the export version.

Pirelli Tire North America chief executive and chairman Pierluigi Dinelli said the company was proud to be selected by Jeep parent company FCA US as the OE tire “on such exciting and important new models.”

“Pirelli developed these new fitments locally and we think they are the perfect fit for an iconic American make like the Jeep Grand Cherokee,” he said.

“This continues our focus on investing and catering to local market needs in North America with our quality product range. We are very happy to be able to offer our customer base these latest additions.”

Scorpion Verde an optional upgrade for Dodge Durango

The Scorpion Verde (265/60R18 110H) will also be offered as an optional performance upgrade on the 2016 Dodge Durango SXT, Limited, R/T and Citadel models.

The vehicle is touted as a “no-compromise SUV” by FCA US. It generates an impressive 290 horsepower (295hp for the Pirelli-shod Citadel) and 206 lb.-ft. torque and, according to FCA, “all of this in addition to the emissions-lowering and fuel-saving feature engine stop-start (ESS) technology, which is a standard feature on models powered by the 3.6 Penstar V-6 engine.”

Pirelli’s eco-friendly tire

The Scorpion Verde product line was developed as an eco-friendly, performance-oriented tire selection for crossover/SUV applications. The all season version is designed to meet the needs of drivers who look for higher mileage and light off-road performance without compromising comfort and safety in a variety of weather conditions.

The Ecoimpact icons on the sidewall of the Scorpion Verde line highlight its environmental compatibility where it reduces rolling resistance and tire weight, compared to Pirelli's previous CUV/SUV tire lines, to increase fuel economy and lower the vehicle’s carbon emissions.
