Thanks to its BKT tires, Pretoria Energy has optimized its agricultural processes by leveraging efficiency and operational continuity

In the county of Cambridgeshire, in the East of England, sits Europe’s largest vertically integrated biogas producer. We are in Chittering, where Pretoria Energy is a leading player in the UK’s renewable energy sector, with around 40,000 acres planted with corn, sugar beets, grass, and potatoes, all destined for green energy production through anaerobic digestion processes.

A model company at the forefront of the ecological transition, Pretoria Energy has—as part of its commitment to greater sustainability—turned to solutions able to support the high operational intensity of its machinery, which during peak periods can run up to 24 hours a day. It is right here where Pretoria Energy’s needs meet the efficiency of BKT tires, a leading Off-Highway tire manufacturer: Most of the company’s equipment is actually fitted with AGRIMAX V-FLECTO, AGRIMAX FORCE, and RIDEMAX FL 693 M tires, meeting the requirements for traction, reliability, and productivity that help ensure maximum continuity in the energy supply chain.

Among those promoting the adoption of BKT tires within the company’s fleet and a strong advocate for innovation is Ethan Molloy, a tractor operator responsible for soil preparation and harvesting activities at Pretoria Energy: “Our model is based on the circular economy, which contributes to the development of a more sustainable, low-emission energy system. In BKT, we’ve found a partner with many shared values. The VF technology of the AGRIMAX V-FLECTO tires, in particular, enables us to operate at low inflation pressures, thereby reducing soil compaction to preserve soil productivity. Moreover, it offers improved traction and a significant increase in operational efficiency supporting our intensive operations.”

Self-cleaning properties and high traction capabilities have proven to be two winning features of BKT tires, which have allowed Pretoria Energy to focus fully and worry-free on its operations. These qualities, along with the benefits of reduced soil compaction and lower fuel consumption, have made BKT a reliable partner for a company that places the green transition at the heart of its mission.

“We started using BKT solutions about two years ago, and right from the start we appreciated their excellent performance in the fields compared to the products we used previously. AGRIMAX V-FLECTO, which is the tire we use most during cultivation and tillage, helps us achieve our goals in a single pass, providing significant benefits in terms of fuel efficiency. These two factors align perfectly with our approach,” Ethan added.

VF technology allows Pretoria Energy to maintain its operational pace even when faced with unexpected weather conditions, without variations in tire pressure and, above all, without any interruption in operations.

For trailers frequently travelling on uneven roads, the company chose RIDEMAX FL 693 M, a tire specifically designed for 75% on-road usage, where it delivers excellent performance and high comfort even over long distances. The company was also impressed by the product’s excellent load-carrying capacity, its strength, and overall durability. “Despite the high levels of operational stress our machinery is subjected to—which might cause damage and tears to the tires—we have never encountered any critical issues with BKT products,” Ethan concluded.

AGRIMAX FORCE has also proven to be a solution that ensures both maximum performance and efficiency, especially due to its ability to carry heavy loads at lower inflation pressures than standard tires.

The partnership between Pretoria Energy and BKT demonstrates how technological innovation and sustainability can go hand in hand, contributing to greater efficiency across the entire renewable energy supply chain. Thanks to solutions designed for high performance, reliability, and soil protection, BKT reaffirms its role as a strategic partner for companies that face the daily challenges of modern agriculture and increasingly sustainable energy production, providing concrete support on the path toward an effective and lasting green transition.
