Michelin North America has introduced the Michelin X Multi Energy D2, a drive tire engineered specifically for the demands of regional haul operations. Announced Sept. 15, 2026, from Greenville, S.C., the new tire takes over from the X Multi Energy D in its available sizes and is aimed at fleets looking to maximize productivity while lowering their cost of operation.

Built for stop-and-start routes

According to Michelin, regional fleets contend with demanding road conditions, frequent stop-and-start driving cycles and rising fuel costs that can significantly affect performance and profitability. The X Multi Energy D2 is designed to address those pressures by combining durability, fuel efficiency and Michelin performance.

New tread on a Duracore casing

The tire features an updated tread pattern and a new tread compound designed to improve resistance to tread damage caused by high-torque vehicles and the stop-and-go driving typical of regional applications. It is built on Michelin’s Duracore casing, which incorporates Infinicoil and Powercoil technologies and is enhanced with a reinforced bead design known as Duracoil Technology. Michelin says the casing is designed for up to one million miles and up to four retreads.

Lower rolling resistance

To help fleets manage fuel costs, Michelin says the X Multi Energy D2 improves rolling resistance by 9% compared with its predecessor, the X Multi Energy D, based on ISO28580 rolling resistance testing of 11R22.5 LRG tires. In internal ISO28580 testing, the company also rates the new tire 18% better than leading competitors, comparing it with the Bridgestone M760 Ecopia and the Goodyear Fuel Max RTD, all in size 11R22.5 LRG.

Better traction late in life

Michelin also reports improved late-life traction. Compared with the X Multi Energy D, the new tire delivered 10% better wet handling performance and 16% better snow starting traction when worn, based on internal testing of 11R22.5 LRG tires with both tires worn to 10/32-inch remaining tread depth. The company says these gains give drivers and operations managers confidence across varying road conditions. On its product page, Michelin credits the tire’s open shoulder and Matrix siping for lasting traction in a variety of weather conditions.

Sizes and availability

For original equipment manufacturers, the X Multi Energy D2 meets Greenhouse Gas standards, supporting applicable vehicle carbon-reduction requirements. Michelin positions the tire for regional applications where traction, durability and fuel efficiency are important considerations.

The tire is available now in 295/75R22.5 LRG and 11R22.5 LRG and LRH sizes, replacing the X Multi Energy D in those sizes. Specifications are listed on Michelin’s X Multi Energy D2 product page.
