Hankook Tire Showcases New Future-Ready TBR Technologies at TMC 2024

Leading global tire maker Hankook Tire today unveiled its SmartLine AL52 and SmartLine DL52 truck bus and radial (TBR) tires as part of the 2024 Technology & Maintenance Council (TMC) showcase hosted by the American Trucking Association (ATA) in New Orleans. In addition to its latest TBR products, Hankook Tire will showcase its tire-mounted sensor technology (TMS) and Fleet Management Solution (FMS) designed for commercial vehicle operators. Hankook Tire will be located in booth #1069.

“It’s always an exciting moment when you can welcome two new TBR products at one of the trucking industry’s premier technical conferences,” said Haesik Lee, TB Marketing Director of Hankook Tire America. “Our SmartLine AL52 and SmartLine DL52 provide long-haul solutions that are more economical and sustainably minded and improve on critical performance categories to help our nation’s truckers go further.”

Designed for long-haul fitments, both the SmartLine AL52 and SmartLine DL52 include Hankook Tire’s latest TBR innovations, including “Hidden Groove” technology, which dynamically adjusts tread patterns as the tire wears, optimizing mileage, fuel efficiency, and braking power. This breakthrough has resulted in a notable 4-6% reduction in the tire’s rolling resistance coefficient (RRC) compared to previous models, enabling more cost-effective and eco-friendly driving.

Additionally, at TMC, Hankook’s TMS and FMS offerings will showcase how such sensors enable remote monitoring of tire pressure, temperature, and wear, facilitating predictive maintenance and cost-effective fleet management.

Attendees will also experience industry-leading TBR innovations, including Hankook Tire’s Spiral-Coil technology, an innovative belt reinforcement method applied to Hankook Tire’s USS (Ultra Super Single) specification. Through this physical sample, visitors can directly observe the layered belt structure wound in the direction of travel. This technology significantly improves the tire’s contact area with the road surface, ensuring stable driving performance, extended mileage, and enhanced energy efficiency.

Visitors to the Hankook booth will also gain insights into its future technology roadmap through videos and detailed explanations of ongoing commercial vehicle solutions and sensor technology developments.
