Hankook Tire & Technology (Hankook Tire) is supplying its Dynapro HPX, a premium comfort tire designed specifically for SUVs, as original equipment (OE) on North American models of the Volkswagen Atlas large SUV, according to the company’s Korean-language announcement dated Sept. 28, 2026.
Volkswagen developed the Atlas for the North American market, and the SUV has built steady popularity in the region’s large-SUV segment on the strength of its generous interior space, versatility and stable driving performance. Hankook says the fitment once again demonstrates its ability to meet the quality standards of global automakers, delivering the ride stability, durability and long-distance performance that North American drivers expect from a large SUV.
Three sizes for the Atlas
Hankook supplies the Dynapro HPX for Atlas models sold in North America in 18-, 20- and 21-inch sizes. The SUV-dedicated tire is designed to provide a comfortable, quiet ride backed by strong handling and braking performance throughout the year. It carries the M+S (Mud+Snow) marking and is intended to deliver stable performance in a range of conditions, including dry and wet roads and snow.
Tread technology for grip, mileage and comfort
The tire uses Hankook’s 3D Grip Control sipe technology, in which serrated blocks interlock to minimize movement, increasing block stiffness, grip and handling performance. An all-season compound with strengthened wear resistance, combined with a wider contact patch, is designed to improve mileage performance.
To reduce road noise, Hankook applies knurling inside the grooves along with an optimized multi-pitch sequence, which the company says also enhances ride comfort and quietness.
A broad Volkswagen Group partnership
The Atlas fitment extends an OE portfolio that Hankook has built across core models from major Volkswagen Group brands as it strengthens its strategic partnership with the automaker. In addition to the Atlas, Hankook supplies OE tires for the Volkswagen Tayron and Tiguan, as well as the Tavascan, Terramar, Born and Raval from performance brand Cupra.
Laufenn, the global brand created by Hankook Tire, is also supplied for models including the Volkswagen Polo and Golf 8, the Skoda New Octavia, and the SEAT Ibiza, Arona and Leon. Hankook says it currently supplies OE tires for some 40 Volkswagen-brand models.
