BKT tires have accompanied the Scaglia family's operations for over 6,500 service hours, achieving high-value technical results in terms of both performance and reliability
The long history of tradition and passion that has distinguished the Scaglia farming business for nearly a century continues its tale intertwining with the technology and high reliability of BKT tires.
A family of Breeders from the beginningrooted in the Italian Turin area, namely in Rivoli, who have implemented over the years a thorough transformation and modernization process, while remaining faithful to the 100% Piedmontese quality of its livestock farms. This confidence is reflected in choosing the best partners for its operations, such as the decision made four years ago with the Merlo telescopic handler equipped with BKT CON STAR tires in size 400/70 - 24 158 A8, which have accompanied Scaglia for a total of approximately 6,500 service hours.
CON STAR has been used in very different operations: forage transport, bulk material handling, and barn activities requiring numerous short-range maneuvers, often on wet or slippery surfaces. This mix of uses is a severe test, highlighting the actual quality of an agricultural tire. The features most appreciated by operators were lifting stability, constant traction even on uneven ground, and casing strength–all of which have a direct impact on safety and operational continuity.
The extraordinarily high-value technical results obtained in the fields by CON STAR were studied and analyzed by BKT's Field Engineering team through a thorough end-of-life tire inspection to detect possible critical issues, particularly on the front axle. Despite some maintenance and patch-and-plug repairs on the product, the analysis revealed a state of utmost tire performance at the end of its life cycle.
As far as wear is concerned, the inspection highlighted a state of uniformity that, over time, contributed to maintaining correct axle balance during loading and load-lifting operations. It was also found that the presence of various abrasion and impact marks—typical of usage in agro-industrial applications such as in Scaglia's case–did in no way affect the product’s performance and durability, thus confirming its high quality and technology.
"It is important to note that the tire sidewall is particularly difficult to repair, as it is a flexing area. And this is a fundamental point that clearly tells the quality of a product, especially on the last millimeter of its use," comments Piero Torassa, Field Engineering Director, BKT Europe. "It is precisely these aspects that have contributed to safeguarding the overall structure of CON STAR and enhancing its ability to ensure high performance throughout its entire life cycle, resulting in the product totaling approximately 6,500 service hours in four years."
Building on its experience with BKT and the excellent results achieved, Scaglia has decided to renew its trust in CON STAR once again and to continue its activities by leveraging a trusted partner that will support the company's operations for thousands more service hours and for many more years to come.
