Sumitomo Rubber announced that it’s production facility in Ladysmith, South Africa began producing tires for trucks and buses this past July 19. With the aim of ensuring a stable supply of truck and bus tires for markets throughout Africa, Sumitomo invested a total of 970 Million Rand (US$68 Million) to install new, cutting-edge production facilities at its South Africa Factory.
Before production started at the company’s tire facility, Sumitomo relied on imports to supply African markets with truck and bus tires. Now, with the start of local production of truck and bus tires, the company says it gained the ability to ensure a stable supply for Africa. Sumitomo expressed plans to continue working to enhance its tire sales business in Africa as part of its efforts to further grow and develop its overall global business.
