Pirelli unveils big OE deals at Paris Motor Show
Pirelli’s noise cancelling technology, PNCS, has taken center stage at the Paris Motor Show in France, where it was also revealed several eagerly-anticipated new car models would come with Pirelli tires as original equipment.
OE deals were revealed for Porsche, Audi, Land Rover and Ferrari, with the company announcing it had developed tailor-made tires featuring PNCS technology for the new Ferrari GTC4 Lusso T, the Audi Q5 and the Porsche Panamera.
Here’s the rundown on the cars and the OE fitments:
Ferrari GTC4 Lusso T
“Comfort with speed was the winning combination of the outgoing model and these were the two key technical characteristics that Ferrari asked Pirelli’s engineers to preserve,” the tire manufacturer says. “But Pirelli added in an additional benefit through reducing rolling resistance by a good 15 percent on the new P Zero tires dedicated to the GTC4 Lusso T.
“This mission was accomplished by managing the deformation of the tire whenever it was against the road, and consequently optimizing the contact patch. With the car also equipped with a four-wheel steering system, this consistent contact patch had to be guaranteed at the rear as well.”
With a KERS (kinetic energy recovery system), a carbon chassis and nearly 1000 horsepower the new LaFerrari Aperta is one of the most keenly anticipated cars of the Paris show. Pirelli says it has manufactured a “bespoke” tire, adopting elements of Formula 1 technology “allied to a wider working range that takes in a broader spectrum of conditions.
The new LaFerrari Aperta will be exclusively equipped with P Zero Corsa Asimmetrico tires in 265/30ZR19 size at the front and 345/30ZR20 size at the rear.
“Pirelli’s engineers, working closely with their counterparts at Ferrari, have increased the tire’s contact patch,” the company said. “The greater area of this bespoke tire — particularly at the front — helps to reduce understeer, improving the way that the car turns in and elevating overall grip as it travels through the corners.”
Pirelli has been involved in the development of the Audi Q5 from the very early stages and this new model comes equipped with P Zero tires complete with noise-cancelling technology.
“Pirelli’s engineers managed to maintain high levels of performance and driving pleasure while complying with the latest regulations regarding noise pollution and CO2 emissions,” the company said.
Land Rover Discovery
The fifth generation of the classic British SUV, Land Rover Discovery, wears Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season tires, from 18 to 22 inches. The biggest measurement makes use of PNCS technology.
As well as the noise cancelling system, the latest Porsche Panamera — another key newcomer at the show — uses Pirelli P Zero tires with Seal Inside technology. These are not only “quiet” tires, but they also have the ability to repair themselves in the event of a puncture.
