Nokian Tires announced the opening of its seventh North American distribution center in Shorewood, Illinois.
The 211,000-square-foot facility, located about 50 miles southwest of Chicago, will be the seventh distribution center for Nokian Tires in North America, and can store up to 275,000 tires. The location began distributing to customers throughout the Midwest Aug. 1, 2017.
“The opening of the Shorewood distribution center is another example of Nokian Tires commitment to investing in North America and meeting the growing consumer demand for our tires,” said Tommi Heinonen, head of North America, Nokian Tires. “The distribution center has already helped reduce delivery times improving our ability to serve customers throughout the region.”
The facility will be managed by Xpedient Logistics, who as a third party logistics organization specializes in tire warehousing and supply chain coordination across Canada and the US. Xpedient also manages Nokian Tires’ distribution center in Montreal.
“Nokian Tires has a strong working relationship with Xpedient and have experienced significant success working with them at our other North American distribution centers,” added Heinonen. “We turn to them for their leadership and expertise in the industry.”
The announcement marks another step forward for Finland-based Nokian Tires in North America, as the manufacturer has seen strong year-over-year growth in both Canada and the U.S. and recently announced the construction of a $360 million manufacturing facility in Dayton, Tennessee.
“Our increasing network of distribution centers in the US and Canada, as well as the opening of the Tennessee plant are key examples of steps Nokian Tires has taken to ensure sales in North America are doubled in the next five years,” said Heinonen.
