New tire releases to expect in 2016
Next year is set to be a huge one for tires with plenty of new releases scheduled for the first half of 2016, including four new Kumho tires and the long-awaited Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3.
Four new Kumho tires out in March
Kumho this month announced its four new releases, all set to be released in March.
The PS91 is a max summer ultra-high-performance tire aimed at a driving enthusiast who prioritizes dry handling and traction when choosing a tire. These are perfect for drivers of high-performance vehicles ranging from small sports cars to exotics. It will debut in 49 sizes in 18- to 21-inch rim diameters with a Y speed rating.
At the other end of the scale, a new value-priced summer tire is also on its way. The PS31 is an ultra-high-performance summer tire aimed at drivers on a budget who want a sporty tire with excellent traction and handling. It will be offered in 49 sizes in 14- to 18-inch rim diameters with V and W speed ratings and no mileage warranty.
The HT51 is a highway terrain tire aimed towards sports utility and light truck drivers who travel mainly on roads and want a comfortable touring-type tire. It will be available in 39 sizes, 15- to 20-inch rim diameters and R, S, and T speed ratings.
Finally, the V720 is an extreme-performance summer product aimed at the ultimate driving enthusiast who enjoys the occasional weekend at the track and the serious autocross competitor who also wants a tire that can be used on the street. It will boast an asymmetric tread pattern, come in 17 sizes in 15- to 19–inch rim diameters with speed ratings of V, W and Y.
Kumho acknowledged that four tire releases in one year might be a lot for dealers to adjust to, but a spokeswoman said education was key.
“Four releases in one year is typically difficult, but Kumho Tire has the experience in handling a task such as this as we successfully launched six new products in 2015,” she said.
“With the experience and knowledge of team members in key fields, we fully expect the same optimal results or even better.”
Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3
In May, Goodyear announced the new-release Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 RunOnFlat is standard equipment for the 2016 Chevy Camaro SS. The tires, in size 245/40ZR20 (front) and 275/35ZR20 (rear), were supplied to Chevrolet in North America ahead of the third generation tire’s full public release in 2016.
The Eagle F1 Asymmetric boasts responsive handling and control in both dry and wet conditions. The tire was tested on the 2016 Camaro SS on a number of world-renowned race tracks, including Virginia International Raceway, Road Atlanta and Germany’s Nürburgring Nordschleife.
Both the Eagle F1 Asymmetric All-Season and the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 feature Goodyear’s RunOnFlat technology, which allows consumers to drive up to 50 miles on a deflating or deflated tire at a top speed of 50 mph.
Goodyear said more information on release dates for the new tire will be out in the new year.
