Everything you need to know about Firestone’s Firehawk

Bridgestone has brought the high-performance technology of its racing tires to the streets with the release of two new Firestone Firehawk tires.

The Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tire and Firestone Firehawk AS tire are modelled on Bridgestone’s Firehawk racing tires used in the Verizon IndyCar Series. The company says they will offer everyday drivers the high performance of a racing tire but at an affordable price.

Inspired by the racetrack

Bridgestone said the new offerings were a logical consumer extension of its racing heritage.

“Racing is an integral part of the Firestone brand’s heritage and the ultimate proof point for our tire technology,” said Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations chief marketing officer Philip Dobbs.

“We are excited to bring our legacy of trusted performance to the consumer tire segment with our new Firehawk high-performance passenger tires. Both the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 and the Firestone Firehawk AS tires are great choices for drivers who work hard and play harder and want to push their vehicles to the limits.”

So what’s the lowdown?

The Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tire is an ultra-high-performance summer tire and replaces the Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval Indy 500. According to Bridgestone, a new tread compound and wide shoulder blocks give the Firehawk Indy 500 tire better cornering and handling in dry conditions, while “Pulse Groove Technology” improves water evacuation and increases resistance to hydroplaning. Its improved wet rubber compound and tread design also deliver an impressive 20 percent shorter stopping distance on wet roads.

Bridgestone calls the Firestone Firehawk AS tire its “best all season performance tire to date.” It replaces the Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval AS tire and gives top performance in wet, dry and moderate snowy conditions. The company attributes this to more water evacuation channels to reduce the risk of hydroplaning and full-depth tread features that help the Firehawk AS maintain its all season and wet performance throughout the life of the tire, which is backed by a 50,000 mile limited treadwear warranty.

The Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tire is available in 48 sizes from 16” to 20” and the Firestone Firehawk AS tire is available in 30 sizes from 15” to 20”. For more information on Firestone’s new offerings, visit the website.
