Bridgestone Americas celebrated the completion of the two-year renovation of their Data Center located in Akron, Ohio.

The project concluded in February and boasts numerous updates and additions to the 49-year-old Akron Data Center, which houses Bridgestone Americas’ core IT systems.

Prior to the renovation, Bridgestone data systems were spread out over multiple locations. The renovation allowed for the systems to be relocated to one centralized venue, which simplifies operations and offers more reliability and virtualization. The 10,000 square-foot data center floor features an environmentally-friendly cooling system, which allows Bridgestone to reduce its mechanical cooling usage. The building also allows for a more robust disaster recovery plan.

Employees, community guests, local government officials and members of the Bridgestone Americas Executive Leadership Team were on hand to celebrate this milestone and reinforce their commitment to the Akron community.

Inside the Akron Data Center

“Bridgestone Americas is proud to call Akron an important home for our teammates and I am delighted to be here for the official Data Center Grand Re-Opening,” said Bill Thompson, Chief Operating Officer of Bridgestone Americas.

The improvements made to the Data Center are an investment in the Akron IT workforce, helping to retain approximately 80 local technical jobs. The Data Center is also home to a print shop that employs approximately 60 positions. This $17.3 million project marks the second investment in the Akron community within a year by Bridgestone Americas. In December 2016, the tire and rubber company announced a two-year lease extension of the Bridgestone Advanced Technology Workshop manufacturing facility. That extension keeps more than 50 jobs in Akron through 2020.
